Job Description

The West Seneca Central School District is seeking a Director of Humanities.  The ideal candidate selected to fill this 12-month administrative position will oversee the English Language Arts, World Languages & English as a Second/New Language (ESL/ENL) content areas. 

This is a full-time, probationary appointment to begin mid-March 2025. Salary and benefits are paid according to the West Seneca School Administrators' Association collective bargaining agreement.  Salary will be paid commensurate with experience.

The timeline is as follows:

  • Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Screening interviews

  • Monday, January 27, 2025, Committee Interviews

  • Thursday, January 30, 2025, Finalist interviews

  • Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Board of Ed recommendation 

  • Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, Tentative start date


Duties & responsibilities:

  • Recommend district policies and objectives, consistent with applicable laws and regulations, and provide direction on matters relating to the requirements of the Part 100s education regulations as they pertain to English Language Arts, English as a New Language, and World Languages.
  • Participate in the development and facilitation of professional development in accordance with district needs and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development, analysis, implementation and revision of curricula as needed based on routine data review.
  • Assist in the preparation of curricular and instructional data reports that are used to make informed curricular and instructional decisions.
  • Prepare and complete required NYSED reporting as part of district accountability and performance.
  • Observe and evaluate staff in alignment with the District APPR evaluation guidelines.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled meetings with administrators, teacher leaders, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform such tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Operations and/or by the Superintendent of Schools.
Job Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Possess New York State Certification as a School District Administrator or School District Leader.
  • Have at least five years successful experience as a classroom educator, including the teaching and supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in the development of curriculum, best practices in instruction, and the creation of common formative and summative assessments.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the Next Generation Learning Standards for PK-12 English Language Arts as well as demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the regulations and learning standards for English as a New Language and World Languages.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to creatively problem-solve.
  • Have experience in utilizing instructional software/technology and its incorporation into the curricular and instructional framework.
  • Show evidence of strong relationships and leadership with stakeholders, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to effectively manage and facilitate groups/committees.
