Maintenance Mechanic—Full Time- 12 months
Position Summary:
The School Building Maintenance Mechanic plays a vital role in keeping school facilities safe, functional, and well-maintained. This hands-on position involves repair, maintenance, and improvement of all building systems, with work ranging from HVAC and plumbing to electrical, and carpentry tasks. We are seeking candidates with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and strengths in any of these areas.
Approximate work hours:
6:00 am - 2:00 pm Monday-Friday
Summer hours — Monday -Thursday 6:00 am - 4:00 pm

- Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have extensive knowledge of building systems and understanding of building construction. Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of experience in the building or service trades; or seven (7) years of experience in the building or service trades, or an equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b). Special requirement of possession of a valid Class D New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and emergency repairs on building systems, including HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, security, and carpentry.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain boilers, chillers, rooftop units, refrigeration equipment, and related mechanical systems.
- Service plumbing fixtures, drains, and domestic hot water systems.
- Repair or replace electrical circuits, panels, switches, wiring, and low-voltage control systems.
- Maintain doors, locks, access control systems, and key management.
- Conduct general building repairs, including drywall, masonry, trim, cabinetry, and fixtures.
- Assist with in-house projects, renovations, and space conversions.
- Use computer-based systems for work orders, preventive maintenance, and building automation controls.
- Follow all safety standards and participate in ongoing preventive maintenance programs.
- Respond quickly to emergencies and support district staff to ensure safe, functional facilities.
Desired Skills & Qualities:
- Experience or training in one or more trades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, locksmithing, security systems, etc.).
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair building systems and equipment.
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to cross-train and expand skill sets.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and reliability.
Training & Certifications:
- Commitment to ongoing training and learning in multiple disciplines.
